ATEX consists of two EU directives that address equipment, safety systems, and safety procedures in potentially explosive atmospheres. Norway is bound by these EU regulations through the EFTA agreement. According to the Directorate for Civil Protection and Emergency Planning (DSB), however, knowledge of explosion hazards in businesses remains inadequate, and the authorities have therefore prepared guidance on the regulations, which will be presented this week.
